Where on earth are we? Where did the VOHLE jump take us? Here we are, united by a single thought. Following a failed VOHLE jump in space aimed at rapid travel, we have been transported to an unfamiliar and unexplored location. It's a completely new planet, signaling a fresh chapter for us. The leads that were supposed to guide us to the next habitable planet similar to Earth have all gone cold, leaving us to blindly search for it without any guidance. We find ourselves on this new planet, and I hope it will be the suitable habitat we seek. Considering our advanced technology, what could possibly go wrong?
Three years after the events of Changed, and the subsequent events of Changed: Outbreak, Colin and Puro engaged in a tranquil stargazing session one night. They were utilizing a recently invented telescope by Doctor K when their attention was drawn to a flickering star in the sky. Upon closer examination, they realized that the blinking celestial body was, in fact, a spacecraft. Understanding the significance of their find, Colin and Puro promptly informed Doctor K, who became instantly intrigued by the presence of the space ship and the enigmatic secrets it potentially harbored. Determined to uncover the reasons behind its presence, Doctor K delved into investigating its purpose.

What if we were the first in our part of the galaxy to discover the secret of faster than light travel? What if this discovery was 10,000 years before it was supposed to be? Our neighbors had been watching for centuries and were surprised with our early arrival into the Web of Worlds... The Year is 2166: To the people of Earth, the universe seemed to be a very lonely place. Astronomers have discovered tens of thousands of planets; many had indications of organic life. SETI had been searching for signals for over 200 years. There had been a few tantalizing bits of radio or radar energy received but nothing ever proven to be of intelligent origin. But there was an alien civilization out there, in fact many of them linked together in a Web of Worlds. They were watching us quietly, carefully and patiently. It had long been the prime directive of the Web that no developing civilization be contacted until that civilization made it into interstellar space on their own; and that always took time, lots of time. Most Web worlds took 1,000 years or more to go from steam to the atom and none had made it from the atom to a sublight stardrive in less than 5,000 standard years. Every civilization of The Web had proven that faster than light travel was impossible, so there was plenty of time to watch the Earth... The watchers were astounded with the speed of progress of human science and also horrified at the periods of violence. By 2076 nuclear fusion power was widespread on earth. By 2100 the first interplanetary fusion ships explored the Sol system. The men and women of the Anglosphere Alliance began their first missions in ships approaching 0.1c. At that velocity, manned flight to even the nearest stars would take a lifetime. It was a normal day for Y/N.. until you agree to help run a test that scientist are trying to do. They tell you that it's a new teleporting device. If it is successful, then this will change how people travel forever. You decide to be the first person to use it... However, it went horribly wrong. You pass out and wake up in a large neon city filled with strange humanoid creatures that appear to be animals... As if that wasn't bad enough.. Then the divine beings tried to correct the mistake and removed the mismatched soul from its unfitting body, slinging it to a distant world with a new body to control. The human flesh-prison replaced with the unlimited options of a shapeshifter, the soul has now a magic-filled world to explore. Grow fur for a mountain hike, grow gills and fins for a deep dive. It's time to catch up on decades worth of missed travels and activities. But who wants to deal with the flesh-craving predators called shapeshifters? Another global purge could start, if the freshly transferred soul shows its abilities too much. ---- The rankings are a mystery to me - especially after this story made it to No. 1 under the shapeshifter tag (and others). Kale had been out taking his dog out for a final bathroom break before heading to bed when he saw it. A ball of light flashed brightly in the sky followed by a crashing sound only seconds later. It hadn't hit too far from his grandmother's house he was looking after for the weeks coming. He had taken the dog back inside and grabbed a hoodie from the coat rack. It wasn't strange for him to take late night walks when he was visiting. He headed toward where he was sure he'd find the meteor thinking it'd make a pretty cool decoration for his coffee table. As he walked toward it he couldn't help but notice how quiet the night had gotten. There wasn't even the usual crickets or frogs chirping. That was when he heard it. A guttural cry of something nearby, he wasn't sure if it was an animal at first but by the end of the sound, he was sure it was a man. He hurried his pace regretting having left his cell phone on the counter by the door. Hoping he wasn't going to find someone seriously injured or even dead. A current original work in progress an adventure inspired by Mass Effect and Star Trek (which will become more evident in later chapters) started out as a Black Panther fan fiction in the early stages but evolved into my own story before I started writing. Who am I? What am I? I look so different from the others. Why is it that I'm the only one built like this? I need answers. There's clearly something deeper into myself. Something like an origin. A race. A farm life is what I've chosen after my initial birth... Not really a birth, just my awakening into this barren land. In a small, Positivist-controlled city, Gireiah Copeigh of Yun, a renowned astronomer and theoretician, witnesses a revelled and worshipped event of deep antiquity: a Vanishing. Of the twelve stars visible on the celestial sphere, eleven remain. Following the event, a strange yet deliberate phenomenon splayed across the sky--mysterious astronomical activities with perhaps principally scientific interpretations, or perhaps the chiseled, fleeting abstractions of gods... In this distant space and time, Gireiah sets out to find an old reclusive friend, an aid to help uncover the truth about the world's newly molested skies, as well as the purpose and mechanism responsible for the Vanishings themselves. The paths of others like himself cross, and in these trekkings, an awful truth of their universe is revealed. This is Exodus Nebula, a novella of about 55,000 words, or twenty-four chapters. The mannerism and syntax of the writing can be a bit... dense. You'll have to excuse me for that. This was never supposed to be a serious attempt at a completed story, yet here it is. At about halfway through, I decided I didn't like the mannerisms at all and that it would be better off as a story entirely rewritten. Instead, I kept up with it anyway and made amends nearer the end. It was a mistake now learnt. If you choose to read past, oh, chapter five, where the story begins to pick up momentum in my opinion, I hope you enjoy. I've included a lot of themes I find intriguing and attempted to make the world wholly open for the reader's interpretation--which was the intent of this project, more or less: a practice of worldbuilding. FREELANCER. BOOK ONE of the FREELANCER SERIES
Back in the late 1990's a great PC game came out called FREELANCER. It was an open galaxy adventure space game that had a good storyline. I spent untold hours flying through space in this game and I always thought it was ripe for a spinoff side story but I never pursued it. Nearly 30 years later I discovered a website called GOOD OLD GAMES where you could find and download many great games of yore. There I found FREELANCER. So I climbed back into the cockpit of a starfighter after so long and have enjoyed it even more than I did way back when. Once again the possibility of a side story presented itself and this time I have risen to the challenge. I have always been an avid reader of SCI-FI and I will be the first to tell you that I have blatantly used ideas from other sci-fi works in my story. I have also used names of real people and places to flesh out my narrative. And as a warning for those offended by sexual content, I have included some pretty erotic sexual segments in my story, so you may want to close your eyes as you read those parts. If you have ever enjoyed playing the FREELANCER PC game, you may enjoy my story. Let me know. As a side note to the story: In the story there is a space station named Lajes. Survival in space was our only option. The dying earth and its sickly inhabitants forced us to flee to the stars. My father, the commander of the elite group chosen to live amongst the stars, brought me along for the journey. And everything was going smoothly until I unexpectedly woke up on a new planet, one with an ethereal glow and an eerie resemblance to our old home as the commander of the military space force, my father tasked his men with exploring this new world. But what they discovered was far from welcoming. This new planet was already inhabited by terrifying creatures, and they were not happy with our presence. His men fought to survive against these beasts, I couldn't help but wonder why they were so hostile towards us. That's when one of them approached me, defying everything we had been warned about. Instead of attacking, it watched me pick flowers before later saving me from a fiery blast. Now it's my turn to save him. Please read the prologue in the beginning before going to Chapter 1. I know a lot of people skip Prologues, however, it has important information that will give you a better understanding of what's going on in other chapters. Feel free to comment and vote.
