A Larry twist on one of my favourite masterpieces, 'Tess of the d'Urbrevilles' by Thomas Hardy.
Harry Styles, the young, beautiful, naive son of a poor peddler, falls prey to the unscrupulous desires of Arthur Saltram, the rich and licentious heir of the Saltram estate, where he is sent to work as a farmhand.
A tumultous period of anguish and pain, coupled with the feeling of intense guilt follows but Harry picks himself up and later joins a dairy farm outside his village, providing distance and supposed closure from the scene of judgement and whispers. His life seems to change for good as he works as a dairyman and meets Louis Tomlinson, the progressive son of a parson, who falls in love with him and a mutual passion develops between the two.
But, as their wedding date approaches, Harry finds himself on the horns of a dilemma, overshadowed by the bitter truth of her past. A victim of the nineteenth century English social morality (where we'll just pretend that being gay was accepted, despite its historical inaccuracy), what sort of future awaits Harry?
