Yeah, I guess I'm doin a leviathantale thing now, even though it's past mermay :/ btw, I don't know anything about this AU, so I'm pretty much just making shit up.

Sci and a few other scientists are out researching leviathans, since very little is known about them. On his first mission out to sea, he encounters a curious koi-tailed leviathan. No one has ever seen a leviathan up close before. 
Before long it's hunting season. It's illegal to hunt leviathan, but the poachers don't care. What will become of the curious leviathan once the poachers spot him? Only time will tell.

Red, a very curious leviathan, is a rare koi-tailed leviathan. The only reason he's been able to survive this long, is because of Dust keeping him away from danger. Dust has seen what poachers can do first-hand, and he wants to make sure that Red never encounters that fate.
