Book One of The Midnight Children "𝙉𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙩𝙨." . . . Alex had always wondered what that meaning meant. Her friend Elizabeth would say it quite often. It was something she never understood, but the others did. They would always nod before diving into whatever mischief they where up to. Alex and the others have been apart of a hidden group called the Midnight Children for quite a long time. Some more than others. They kept tabs on the paranormal in the local area. Some members where assigned to study the creatures, others where hired to kill. I geuss you could say the town had a colorful variety of residents. The group of course wasn't on their own. An elderly woman, Agnes, and her caretaker Mary, helped run the group. ▩━━━━━━◈━━━━━━▩ . . . . . . Where had she heard it? That burn the boats quote? Honestly Elizabeth Reid couldn't remember. Quill says that she picked it up from him. But she doubts that. He's too much of a chaotic man to say such things. If the depression demon she had didn't block most of her memories...maybe then she could remember. But as of now, most of her past didn't matter. All that mattered was that she kept her end of the deal with the demon. All that mattered was she warned the others, in hopes that they would eventually catch on. That what the Midnight Children where actually doing...wasn't protecting the town. It was feeding the demons hidden in it. . . . "𝙉𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙩𝙨." The world did in fact not end with a bang, but a whisper. Nothing was left but a suffocating stillness. The air was thick with ash, the remnants of humanity left to crawl through a poisoned wasteland. The whispers of those we had lost haunted us. The line between predator and prey had began to blur. The dead did not rest but it was the survivors that plunged the earth into darkness. I had grew to watch the accustomed look of desperation between my group. Haunted by my past I became a distant memory to those I once looked to for hope. They just didn't understand that biding time wasn't a blessing, it was a curse. And I realised, as the sky grew white-the end was never the worst part; it was what came after. ---------- Book series: Book 1- In the Afterlife Book 2- Ashes of tomorrow
