When Link and Zelda find the mummy underneath Hyrule Castle, they never expected it to animate. Zelda, stepping forward to protect the one who saved her prior, is confronted with pure gloom, and it nearly costs her an arm. Meanwhile, Link stumbles backwards into a fissure, and disappears.
