After using the Matrix of Leadership against Unicron, Optimus Prime lost his memory until Jack, using the Key of Vector Sigma, restored its power. Before that, Prime had a secret mission after defeating Unicron. Upon reverting to Orion Pax on Earth, Optimus Prime's memory, knowledge, and body were transferred to another planet until the Matrix was restored.
