On their 16th birthday each person gets a tattoo with a color that determines their aura that will come with special powers. 2 years later on their 18th birthday their powers are fully developed. The tatto is not fully completed till the individual has physical contact with their soulmate. Only then does it finish by engraving their other half's initial in their auras color.

There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle.
