Alex has found Jay, after all this time, all that work. He's different now, secretive, avoiding questions and remaining out of arm's reach.
Paranoia bears down on Jay-- he's sure there must be more lurking behind the scenes, just as there always has been, but there's nothing to suggest that there is. He has to be overreacting, taking every little 'clue' and running with it until he's two seconds from cracking.
Going by experience, though, he's right to be afraid.
