Shattered Secrets

"There's only one way out of this, you know that," his boot steps sounded like bombs in the quiet of the room as he stalked towards me.

"For your crimes of theft, murder, betrayal," his boots stopped, and a white flash of pain tore through my already pounding head as he picked me up by the back of my hair, "and being a lying bitch, how do you plead, mia piccola rosa?"

I glared into those dark eyes I once trusted, and winced as his grip on my hair tightened.

"Hm?" He grunted impatiently, and I knew what my answer was.

My spit mixed with my blood landed satisfyingly in his right eye, and I smiled. I knew I looked deranged in that moment, with a red smile and crazed eyes, but I didn't care, and I was finally able to force the words out that I'd been dying to say for years.

"Fuck you."

And that's when all hell broke loose.

A whistleblower. A squealer. A rat.
All things I never thought that I'd be called. But, when you look at my family, it's not hard to see why I did it. It's not hard to see why I ran, either. Sure, going to the police wasn't the brightest idea I've ever had, but it sure beat getting my brains blown out. Now, I have to somehow figure out how to survive on a farm, avoid any and all questions thrown at me by an infuriatingly curious, albeit hot, man, and hope to God that they don't find me...Easier said than done, right?
