I guess with all the talk of mermaid movies, art and Mer-May happening a few months ago, I got the idea to write such a story with a twist: Luke Skywalker as a merman! The Isle of Skye is an island of Scotland. Scotland has lots of legends and folklore about sea creatures such as:
Merlin- a small bird of prey, like a falcon, found in Scotland.
kelpies - A waterhorse that will trick a human rider, taking them for a ride down to the watery depths, killing them.
selkies - A shapeshifter that changes from a seal to a human on land by removing its seal skin coat.
finfolk - A creature that comes ashore from the water to kidnap humans forcing them to become their spouses or slaves in
their underwater world.
bacon butty and scotch pie are a small mincemeat or pot pie type of food.
Cranachan is like a raspberry parfait, sort of.
Irn Bru is to Scotland what Coke-a-Cola is to the U.S.
The Hebridean Mermaid is a young Scottish lady who swims about the Outer Hebrides area in her mermaid fin costume.
The Dunvegan Castle is the home of the clan Macleod, who are said to own a flag given them by a fairy who also may have married into the family. Americans may recognize the name Macleod from The Highlander movies and series.
rockpooling is searching or foraging for sea creatures or seafood in the rocky areas that are exposed when the tide is out.
The summers on Skye can range in temperatures from 15-17C (59-63F)
