Kaoru (17)- the spirited and willful daughter of a wealthy daimyo, and the niece of the powerful General Saito of Mibu. Being used as bargaining chip in the war between Mibu and Choshu. Wants to humiliate her childhood crush Yukishiro Enishi by publicly refusing his marriage offer. Can't resist getting into trouble. A general menace to society.
Kenshin (20)- Known as Battousai and believed to be a demon. The most feared warrior in the Choshu faction. Five years earlier, he was engaged to the beautiful Yukishiro Tomoe, who he was infatuated with, and made a vow to fight and protect her. Tomoe ended up eloping with someone else and Kenshin realized that his feelings for her were shallow and immature. But he's now stuck fighting in a war he doesn't want to fight, where he's killed countless people and is seen as a blood thirsty monster, because of a vow he made when he was a dumb fifteen-year-old.
