All her life, Montie was mediocre. Montie was second-best. Montie was an option. Montie was dull. Montie never stood out in the crowd. Montie was a troublemaker. Montie was not enough. Montie could never quiet down the demons around her.

But Uno always found Montie as the odd one out. Uno never had other options. Uno thought she was rather bright. Uno saw her as timid. Uno believed she is a whole person amidst the pieces of himself scattered across every room. Uno quieted her demons.

Indeed, principles crash and burn against untamed feelings. And in a split second, it was fine to be mediocre. It was alright to take things one day at a time. It was okay not to realize dreams right away. The uncertain seas became familiar. The demons drowned.

Or so she thought. After all, demons don't need drowning when they know how to dive.
