Raven's Feather: Book One of Bird Song Series

In Hendra, to be born with green eyes means you are born with a gift. One of four: to drink poison and never be affected, to control the body, to speak in every tongue and to every animal, and to shift forms at will. These people are called the Gifted, and they have been highly respected throughout the country. But recently, their numbers have been dwindling and every year fewer and fewer are being collected to go to Renaissance Nexus, a school made for young people to develop their gifts. At age sixteen, many carriages go around the country and pick up the students so their gifts can develop and eventually one day work to protect their country. And Azalea Jakson is one of those lucky few. She is the only child to be born with green eyes in her village. Everybody celebrated her sixteenth birthday, and she got news of her acceptance to the school for the Gifted. She thinks she knows what is in store for her, but with rising numbers of people against the idea of Gifteds being so revered, nobody can expect what is coming next.
