Shereen, a young girl from Barbados, embarked on a journey that would shape her life in ways she could never have imagined. Her grandmother, Tully, brought her to the United Kingdom, a generation that bore the weight of sacrifice and hope. Tully became a nurse, dedicating her days and nights to the healing of others. Shereen, the spark of innocence that ignited hope in her grandmother's heart, gave birth to a daughter named Binta, a child who embodied the strength and resilience passed down through generations. Shereen, unaware of the tumultuous reasons behind Tully's coldness, grew up in a home where love was elusive and elusive.

In 2012, the Home Office Secretary, Theresa May, announced the Windrush scandal, demanding proof of residency in the UK. Shereen found herself entangled in a web of bureaucratic nightmares, her precarious immigration status threatening to tear her apart from her children.

The shadows that had haunted Shereen for far too long dispersed, replaced by the warm embrace of a newfound identity. The final words of Shereen's story remind us of the triumphs born from adversity and the strength that can be found in the most unlikely of souls. May her tale serve as a beacon of hope for all those who have lived in the shadows, their stories longing to be told, and their voices waiting to be heard.
