Bianca Hastings, Arthur Hastings younger sister, has been struggling with the Joy from the beginning. She tried her hardest to keep taking it but the effects of it only got worse. Thankfully she managed to hide it but now she's decided to stop taking it altogether but, she is also starting to let her guard down. And, she's in love with a Constable. That is a dangerous combination in this world. The story takes place in 1964 in the town of Wellington Wells. Several years had passed since the "very bad thing" and all the residents of this small town are drugged and delusional, taking their Joy like good citizens to forget about the past. But, you also had to take your Joy. It was the law. If you didn't, bad things would happen to you. Duncan Banister is a rather brutal Constable in their building. He doesn't hesitate when Downers are discovered. According to Arthur, he will just kill anyone who refuses to take Joy. Enforcing the law is his job, and he takes it quite seriously. He has an eye for Bianca. Each interaction between them gets more and more heated. Their desires for one another are unbridled. He soon learns of her secret and for the first time in his life, he is unable to follow through with his job as a Constable. That reality hits him hard. He is in love with a Downer and he wants nothing more then to keep her safe.Complete
