Lewis Kellard, a young Starfleet Officer, is assigned to the USS Cerritos. Despite his misgivings about the California Class, he becomes acquainted with members of the Lower Decks who try their best to make him feel welcome. Queen Paolana, the elected ruler of Hysperia, plans to kidnap her son Andy Billups and force him to take the Throne. With the death of his Grandfather, and the Federation Council's decision not to intervene, Lewis Kellard must steal his grandfather's ship, the USS Independence, and rescue Andy Billups before he's forced to lose his virginity without his consent. Will Lewis Kellard and the Lower Deckers succeed and stop Queen Paolana?

Later on, Damian and his fellow officers discover a giant robotic planet killer that will destroy the planet unless they act quickly.The Romulans do not trust Starfleet or the Federation, since they had been abandoned decades earlier when their star went supernova. It becomes evident that Captain Jack Ransom will do anything to achieve the success of the mission for his own gain and will not allow anyone to stand in his way.
