Name of the Flower

Synopsis:
Pure literature flavor.
FLOWER, a junior high school student who grew up in the city and is troubled by her relationship with her family, spends her summer vacation in Kagawa, where her mother has been transferred to work alone. There is a idyllic countryside far from big city.
Having too much time on her hands in a strange land, she starts to go to an old folk house cafe run by a young man who is a relative of her mother's. She finds herself in the middle of summer in Kagawa, a place rich in nature and gradually begins to develop a liking for the young man.

This story was created as a homage to Françoise Sagan's classic novel, "Bonjour Tristesse (Hello, Sadness)".
While "Bonjour Tristesse" is a fresh story of a young girl who experiences a summer of love and loss in a French summer resort, "Name of the Flower" is a story of a young girl who spends a summer in modern-day Kagawa, where is Japan's idyllic countryside.

The title, "Name of the Flower", is taken from a story in "Makeup Angels," a short story in Kawabata Yasunari's collection of novels, "Tanagokoro no Shosetsu" (A Novel in the Palm of the Hand).
"Tell the man you are parting with the name of one flower.
Flowers always bloom every year."

There are two versions of "Name of the Flower," a short story version of 40 manuscript pages and a longer version of 330 pages.
The overall synopsis is almost the same.
