At 18, every citizen is released into the Wasteland. For 5 years, you do whatever you can to keep yourself alive. That is the only way you can return to the safety of the civilization that raised you; where is no poverty, barely any crime, and almost no danger. And we have the wasteland to thank for our prosperity.

When Paila's first day in the wasteland takes an unexpected turn, she has to make a choice. Should she strike out on her own, or abandon everything she knows about staying alive and place her safety in the hands of a distant and murderous stranger?
