"My life is like a movie being watched on someone else's computer... and they're wearing the headphones. Everything is silent. It's been silent for my entire life. I have never heard anything since I was born.
I was thrown into my life against my will, a girl with no family and no hearing. I feel like I live in a horror movie.
My name is Maria Valasquez, and it drives me crazy that I can't make a difference. I long to make a difference, to myself, to deaf people, to the world. There are millions of things that happen to me and the world, and it's like a horror movie (a silent horror movie)-- I see everything happening around me, but I can't do anything about it. I just watch it happen, as much as I would like to scream and stop the movie so I don't have to watch something so awful, but it's life, not a movie. I just have to cope with it..."

Maria Valasquez has had a hard life. Born deaf and losing her family at the age of seven, she is taken in six years later by a kind family with financial difficulties. Her best friend, Tanisha, introduces her to a new activity that allows her to make connections without verbal speech. But an accident leaves her unable to use sign language and participate in the sport she loves. Every obstacle Maria faces seems to isolate her more and more from the rest of her silent world. Then Maria comes across an impossible choice that could change her life, and make her what she's always wanted to be: normal.

Book 7 in the It just Happened Series. (Can be a stand alone but to better understand it read Never Say Never.) Love is supposed to be great and for awhile it was, until it wasn't. I had it all! The perfect husband, well for the most part. Everyone has their flaws but Johnny he was the best. Then I lost him and my world fell apart. How can you move on from your other half? Then there is River Fox the one person who will just not leave. Just because he made a promise to my husband doesn't mean he owes me anything. He infuriates me to no end! I just can't get him out of my mind, and it kills me! "Katrina." He never calls me by my name. It's always princess, stubborn, a pain in his ass. "Look at me." I can't because when you call my name it does things to me, I know it shouldn't! "Please, just stop!" Do. Not. Cry! I can't take the guilt anymore. "Just go. Please!" The first tears fall as the door slams shut. I'm betraying him by wanting his close friend. Even though I try to fight, I can't resist him. I hate it! I hate him, but mostly hate myself for the desire I have for the one man I shouldn't. How did everything get so out of my control? "Your hair is full of snow," He chuckled as he looked at her, reaching out to push a strand of hair behind her ear. Some snow successfully fell off her, but he didn't withdraw his hand. He cupped her cheek, wiping away a few snowflakes from it. She was frozen, staring at him like a deer caught in headlights, her heart pounding in her chest. Then, raising his other hand, he cupped her cheeks fully. His eyes began to trace every inch of her face; her eyes, her cheeks, her nose, before his gaze dropped to her lips. Her heart skipped a beat as she tried to keep herself together. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seventeen-year-old Valentina Barron doesn't have the most ideal home life. Morgan Hall is your average teenager. That is if you consider having a billionaire CEO of a world renowned company as a dad and a fashion designer of one of the most famous lines in the world as a mother average. Let's not leave out her singer/actress of a sister who's taking the world by storm. Morgan was no doubt born with a giant silver spoon in her mouth, but her life isn't always as perfect as it seems. Aaron Smith, quiet and reserved, admired my many for his good looks. He doesn't seem to associate himself with many people. Which is why it's so strange when he finds himself becoming friends with the rich, little, daddy's girl...at least that's what he thinks of her. Fate and chance are at work when they cross paths one afternoon on a bus. Throw in crazy lives and secret identities, and you get one hell of a ride on the road to self discovery. What Morgan doesn't know is that one stubborn move could land her a new friend, and possibly even more. ~~~~~ "It's amazing...magical even, how hearing one song can take you back to a single moment or a series of them, just so you can live it all over again," he said. "I think that's the best part about music. It's like time travel you know? Going back to the past, or sometimes even visualizing the future...what we could be." "What about the sad moments?" I asked softly. "Nobody wants to re-live those." "Maybe not, but that's the entirety of it," he answered, raising his hand to brush away the hair from my face before tucking it behind my ear. "There's always good in the bad, and bad in the good. Balance." His fingers trailed down my arm, sending shock waves through me. "Can I tell you something?" I asked softly. The corner of his lips curved upwards in a small smile. "You can tell me anything."

I remember the first time I couldn't hear. I was seven and sitting in a hospital room with my panicked mother. The doctors lips were moving but no sound as far as I could tell. I turned to my mother and she was in tears as her lips moved. No words, no sound, nothing. The doctor was trying to calm me down but how do you calm down a seven year old who is deaf for the first time in his life? You can't. So of course it took a lot sugary candy and writing on white boards to communicate as best as a first grader can. It was hard on my mum, especially because my dad walked out on us four years before that. I remember as a kid, coming home and locking myself in the basement and screaming at the top of my lungs. Trying to hear something, trying to wake myself from this nightmare and then one day, I realized that this fever dream was my reality and I couldn't change it. My mum tried her hardest for me, making an effort to learn sign language with me, sending me to a deaf school and making sure I was happy. I picked up Sign language easily because I was so young but I struggled trying to communicate with others. I couldn't communicate with the rest of my family, my mum had to communicate for me until I could lip read and try to teach my family how I communicate. Nine years later and things are still tough but not as hard as they were.
