Remembering To Forget

He tries to forget his past that haunts him,
She struggles to remember her future yet to come.

Later will I realize in reminiscence of that dank, small alley as I stare into the soul of a man who didn't have one, our whole relationship was a competition. A game of who can withstand the most, the longest. We pushed each other to our breaking points and beyond. Who won is unknown. It didn't matter when we only lived in the present, forgetting the past that haunts him and the future I'll struggle to remember. However sometimes to embrace the future, one must live in the present and in order to do so, it requires understanding the past, and that's where it all began.
