You know how they say: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?
Does that apply to a campsite in the middle of Northern Wisconsin on a prominent American holiday?
Amelia Brooks always had bad luck with men. That, inconveniently, always left her as the only single friend in a group of couples, and the only thing worse than being the only single friend in the group, was being the only single friend in a group that goes camping together for ten days over the Fourth of July. Usually, that meant sharing a camper with said couples, shoved in the corner on the only twin bed in sight. This year, however, Brooks was prepared and was ready to camp in a tent by herself. What she hadn't considered, however, was the fact that this year, she might not be alone in her suffering.
Alexander Hanes was the athlete of the group. With an unsurprisingly perfectly sculpted body and deep, hazel eyes that often shifted green in the sun, it was no surprise that Brooks had always had a crush on him. There was just one problem, though- he had a girlfriend. Or... at least, he used to. Now, upon seeing him again for the first time since their college graduation, Brooks learns that Alex is now single- and he's looking for somewhere to crash for the week that doesn't involve bunking with a bunch of happy couples. Luckily for him, Brooks has just the place.
The tent is hardly big enough for two, and upon remembering some drunken words muttered the first time she had met Alex, Brooks is reluctant to now share a bed with the handsome, newly-single, friend who she's been secretly crushing on for years. But when she goes against her better judgement and complies, rules are set to ensure that her friend remains just that- a friend.
But rules are made to be broken.
And things that happen in the tent during the week of the Fourth of July are meant to stay there.
So why not have a little fun?
Side note: never fall for your fake boyfriend.
When my best friend convinced me to write a love letter to my crush, I didn't expect it to all go south. Because instead of the most realistic scenario-him reading the letter and rejecting me privately-the last thing I'd ever expected to happen did.
The letter doesn't end up in his locker. But in the locker of one of the most popular football players in the senior class, Ian Bale. Who also just happens to be my crush's older brother.
Luckily, he promises to keep it a secret. But our actions start spreading rumors about us and in the next minute, I'm thrown into a fake relationship. But it works out for the both of us. Ian saves me from potential embarrassment while I help get his friends off his back about his dating life (or lack thereof).
However, as the month progresses, I find myself enjoying more and more of his company. From his cheesy pick-up lines to his sense of wonder and even his nerdy glasses. My priorities begin to shift and I can't help but be a little terrified of the prospect of trusting another guy again.
But I think I can make an exception.
