Alluim, or Ali is a freshwater Mermaid belonging to a pod that has made their home in a water-filled mountain in the ranges of the Pacific Northwest. Her pod worships one god from the mermadic pantheon in particular: The God of Dark Waters and it is taboo to worship any deity other than their Lord. 
Ali, however, has always felt closer to his mistress, the Moon Goddess, and feels ill- at ease following the social norms of her Pod. 
During a ceremony honoring the Moon Goddess, Ali happens to meet Oliver, a human mage who seems just as curious as she is - and much more in danger as well. 
The plot thickens when Ali's Ascension ceremony into adulthood sends her life into a spiral with direct communication from the gods, and an important mission is imparted upon our main character. Will Ali carry out the will of the gods, earning herself glory and respect from them, or will she earn their ire instead?
