Onyx has the best friend she could ever hope for, Thorn. And all they have is each other. Life in the Shrines is really hard, unless of course you are a drug lord, who is currently at large. The Shrines is the biggest city in the desert, so large in fact it has its own economy, an economy that profits the rich, and spits at the poor. And Onyx is at the bottom of the barrel poor, and then she finds Thorn. The son of the drug lord, Quibli Merrell.

The Hunters scout out terrain, reclaim Dead Zones, and are the eyes and ears of the City- the Warlocks research the secrets of the fundamental ideas of the Darkness, predict future events, and enthrall themselves in the workings of the Light to understand it and to find new ways to work it into the Guardians arsenal- and finally, the Titans, Defenders of the Last City, and the burning lights of hope in the shadows. Honor-driven. Leaders. Warriors. The Protectors of Humanity. Deeply intertwined in the history of the Last City.
