No one cared for the sea. It was constantly disregarded, always polluted. Humans threw their plastics and cans into the waters like the life that was once flourishing didn't matter. Many of the creatures had to delve deeper into the ocean in order to find places where they could live without having to worry about the pollution. Some of the creatures also evolved over time, they evolved into larger reptilian-like beasts that protected the animals on the shallower parts of the sea. These creatures were called the "Shadows of the Sea" by the humans.
The humans grew more and more aggravated by the fact that these beings were meddling in their daily lives. They intended to hunt them down. Each and every last one of them.
While being hunted, they were constantly referred to as "Water Lizards". The species started to weaken and were forced back into hiding, only coming up every now and then to keep the life above from going extinct. They also kept the waters from being further polluted, pushing the human's trash back up to land and sometimes making the trash go further than just the beaches.
Then the werefolk invaded the humans, taking them down slowly but surely. The Water Lizards, or more formerly known as Dravagians, thought that they would finally be left alone in their own peaceful bliss. They were wrong. Oh, so very wrong.
The humans were doing research and were keeping their research in many books, talking about how the Dravagians can take on human forms, where they come into view, how they liked to bath in the sun, and how they were actually a really peaceful and skittish creature. Which, in all honesty, was true.
But, the Dravagians were not pleased with this because now they were being hunted by the werefolk.
Will they have to stay in hiding forever?
