Harry stood in the empty bathroom- his heart ached, it was 2 am and his love for almost 7 years was holding onto life by a thread.
He was so proud of Louis - the doctors had already given him an expectancy of how long he would live... But he remained optimistic and his blue eyes never lost their spark. Especially when Harry glanced toward him.
His coughs had worsened and it worried Harry to the point of crying at night. Which should have been seen as a weakness. But Harry would only smile through his tears. Those were for Louis and Louis alone. 'It'll be okay... Won't it boo?" Harry found himself asking aloud, and he would take his love's hand. They would be okay... Even if they had to be separate for a little while. "I love you..." Harry whispered.

This is an alternate ending short story for my "Cross My Heart" story. You would need to read or at least start reading Cross My Heart first, to understand THIS story!! In "Cross My Heart", Harry and Gwen are boyfriend/girlfriend after Harry saves her from a life of captivity. But something happens.... This story starts at the moment in Cross My Heart, that Harry is shot in the chest. Instead of him pulling through and surviving, as he does in that story, I've branched off and written this short story of what would happen to Gwen and Louis if Harry died. How they each would mourn his death. How Gwen would get through the loss of the love of her life....her everything....her reason for breathing....her reason for life. How would she survive without him? Louis, Harry's best friend in the world, and practically a brother to him, promised Harry that he'd take care of Gwen throughout her life, before Harry was going to die. He loved her already. He was in love with her, and Harry knew this. Harry approved of Louis's love for Gwen, and he knew she'd be in good hands with him. He also knew that she could learn to love Louis (as she already did, but on a deeper, real love scale) and knew she could be happy for the rest of her life with him. He knew Louis would love her forever and give her a great life, along with Harry's millions that would go to Gwen and him. That's all he wanted, before he died. He wanted to know that Gwen would be alright. Taken care of. Loved. Whether romantically, or as a friend to Louis....she'd make it, with the help of Louis. This story is how they both make it. "I am, Harry. I'm real and I'm here!" He said extending his arm towards Harry silently asking him to feel him. "No, no, no! You have said it before, but you are not!" Harry shook his head. Harry steps closer until they are toe to toe, Louis slightly tilting his head to look into his eyes. They're so close, yet they feel miles away. Louis almost reaches out to see if Harry's really there, to see if he's actually real, but he keeps his hands at his sides. Harry brings his hand up and gently tilts Louis' head a bit more to bring their lips together easily, this being one of the most familiar things to the both of them. Louis brings his hands up to mirror Harry's, but it feels forced somehow. Louis feels his throat closing, his stomach churning, and his eyes aching as they deepen the kiss. He tries to tell himself that this is good, that this is everything that he needs and wants. Because, really, all he needs is a place to call home and his boy. But this doesn't feel like their home and Harry isn't really his boy anymore. Or I got bored over quarantine and decided to write a super sad oneshot between Louis and Harry based on Mitski's song "Bag of Bones," and it accidentally turned into a little book.Concluída
