Geralt wasn't always the father of a girl who wasn't his. He also wasn't from Rivia. He used to just be the boy I'd known a village over. The one I'd see with his mother when my father and I went to sell his crops. Even after his transformation, he was still the boy from the village I'd know all those years ago.

Triss Merigold and Yennefer of Vengerberg were not the loves of his life. I was. I was the one who found him again after he survived his transformation. I was the one he came home to every night and in the winter. He smiled before Ciri and the other girls. I made him smile. I made him soft. I was the one he loved first.

That all came crashing down the day I died. That's when he stopped smiling.

[post-Blood and Wine] After the witcher let him go, Dettlaff fled Toussaint and the dead woman who tore him to pieces. He intended to stay far from men for as long as he could, but Regis finds him a miserable mess only twenty years later. With his aid, Dettlaff slowly returns to the man he was, but what's missing is his ability to feel anything other than pain and regret, and he loses hope he has any good future at all. Then, alas, a wounded and feisty half-elf by the name of Alma, scorned by the world, stumbles upon him, and in one another they find personality and heartache surprisingly similar to their own. Yet neither readily admits their bond, and neither realize the fate they thought they'd get is very far from the truth. © 2022 by Verona Rohellec. Mature language. Violence/gore. Sexual themes. And, obviously, spoilers for a major character in the books as well as the third game's DLC Blood and Wine. Completed.
