Living up to society's standards proves to be a perpetual challenge for twelve-year-old Angela Morrison. The fact that she engages in hobbies such as embroidering, reading, and playing the violin does not make her situation any better. The bullies' main source of entertainment is the genius Angela, and her standing up to them years ago made them hate her all the more.
When Angela discovers that her family is moving from Chicago to Dallas, Texas, she has mixed feelings. On one hand, her tormentor Carlotta would finally be out of her life.
