In a rewatch of Keeper of the Spire one day, I had an idea.
And that idea... that idea grew into a fanfic.

What if Hector broke Varian out of jail? What if Varian followed Rapunzel's group until they were attacked by the Kirlok at the Spire? (Calliope: It's pronounced "spire".)
Now, Varian is traveling with Rapunzel's group and trying to atone for his actions. But this alchemist has many secrets, some that may threaten the safety of the group and their fragile trust in him.

This fic is inspired by Alchemist out of Corona by @ElizabethShelby and Blood of my Brother by @AMax76, but with my own spin on things! This is a novelization of season two (beginning partway through Keeper of the Spire), but slightly rewritten to include Varian in the gang's adventures!

When the gang gets back to Corona, something unexpected awaits them. Varian is nowhere to be found. They face conflicting emotions as the King assures them that Varian is fine. As they attempt to uncover the truth, unnerving horrors are revealed. ---------------------- Basically season 1 and 2 happened but Varian didnt take over with Andrew. Also Cassandra took the moonstone, BUT Rapunzel convinced her to put it back, but none of that is really described until later. Alchemist's Return To Corona
SEQUEL TO "ALCHEMIST OUT OF CORONA." After joining the gang in season 2, Varian returns to Corona. The recent events in the Dark Kingdom have left him exhausted, physically and mentally. But more challenges await our favorite alchemist... Will he discover why he has a strange connection to the Moon Stone? Can he manage to get through to Cass, or will his efforts only attract unwanted attention from an ancient evil that seems to have been pulling the strings all along? Similar to the first book, this one basically reads as a novelization of the third season, while adding my own changes and including Varian in every episode.

Following his trial, Varian is sentenced to servitude in Ingvarr to pay for damages to Corona. Lieutenant Cassandra is supposed to escort him there, but Rapunzel wants her best friend on her journey. To compromise, the Princess suggests taking Varian with them. ------------------- Updates will typically release on Sundays at 8AM EDT. The cover art is made by yours truly, and was inspired by an album cover from my favorite music artist, Kiltro! Go check out their music- which also inspired the name of this story, haha. My personal favorite song in Underbelly (the album) is Errasuriz. Also! I write everything in google docs, which is where I format everything for AO3 (this work is cross-posted to AO3). So if you spot any letters encased in angled brackets, I apologize, it's how I italicize words, strike them out, and format for AO3. I will do my best to edit them out for you.
