After returning to New York City after seven years of disappearance at 19 years old, billionaire-CEO of Chang Enterprises and renowned paleontologist Kaitlyn Murphy Chang, vowed her vengeance against the crime that took her mother and father away from her. The first installment in Ben's Batman series. When his parents were gunned down in front of him, young Bruce Wayne resolved to rid Gotham City of the criminal element that took their lives. He trained to achieve mental and physical perfection; in addition to mastering the martial arts, detective techniques, and criminal psychology. Dressing as a bat to prey on criminals' fears, he fought crime with the aid of specialized gadgets and vehicles, operating out of the secret Batcave down below Wayne Manor. He was the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader, the...BATMAN!! This first story line brings Batman into conflict with sadistic and brutal crime lord, Black Mask. The most powerful man in the city and ruler of Gotham's criminal underworld, Black Mask has vast wealth and resources, eliminated his opposition and is consolidating his power. Upon returning to Gotham City after his training, Bruce Wayne also learns that the venomous Scarecrow is planning to use a deadly and dangerous new drug called "Vertigo" into Gotham City, spreading fear and panic throughout the population. With Scarecrow and Black Mask forming an alliance to corrupt Gotham, Bruce must use his wits to defeat them. Supporting key characters include Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon, Lucius Fox, Carmine Falcone, and Vicki Vale.

Gotham City: the definition of crime. The mob, gangs, and organized crime had dominated the streets. The police are mere annoyances to the law breakers in the town, as they have not had Gotham in control for decades. That is until a hero arrives. Or rather, a vigilante. Bruce Wayne is a billionaire who has personally seen and lost so much of the crime in this city, having had his parents murdered in front of him as a child. Using his feat of bats as an inspiration, Bruce soon dawned the name of "Batman" and became the one thing to stop criminals I'm the city, bringing hope in fear. Now when someone is sneaking illegal equipment into Gotham, it's time for the Dark Knight to team up with Jason Todd, ,otherwise known as "Robin", to track and prevent the criminal mastermind planning the operation that could possibly be worse than all the criminals combined could do.
