Mable Lawrence has never considered herself a heroine. She's ordinary, the girl who didn't even finish college, living off her sisters' paychecks while she cares for their ill father. She goes about her day-to-day routine on autopilot, accepting the fact that she won't get a happily ever after like in the stories. That all changes on the day she goes for a walk on a nearby hiking trail in her home town of Berkshire, Vermont. Suddenly, Mable is trapped in an enchanted castle, with magical servants and their "Master", a man turned hideous by a terrible curse. Only true love can free them all from their prison, and the castle residents are convinced Mable is the one who will save them all. But Mable does not want to fall in love; she just wants to go back to her normal, everyday life. Yet the longer she stays, the harder it becomes to go back to the life she both wants and rejects. She makes new friends, and even finds herself falling for the man behind the beast. But will she have to give up all that's important to her in order to be truly happy?
