Agent Phoenix/Oliver is the male protagonist, a secret agent sent by the agency called the Citizens on a special assignment at Dubai. While on that assignment, he met a sassy pretty lady devoted to working hard for her family back in the Philippines. Either by chance or by fate, they met again and again drawing them closer each time.
Inevitably, they fall in love. But it was short lived. Agent Phoenix's assignment was successful so they planned to return home together. Everything was already settled. Their possessions, passports and boarding tickets were already with Agent Phoenix.
But on his way to their meeting place, he was ambushed by the nemesis of their agency called the Titans. He died mutilated right there and then. His successful assignment turned into a mess overnight. Everything he got fell into the hands of their enemy.

Agent Rocky, his partner, searched for him and found enough evidence of what really happened to his partner. What he found was a bloodbath but with no remains. He was forced to return back to HQ due to the sensitivity of their current situation. But in his heart, he never fully believed his partner's death.

With everything that happened, Emily was left in Dubai, desolate, imprisoned and then deported. Back home, she discovered she was pregnant. She knew nothing of him but his name to hate, Oliver Ibarra. She thought he bailed on her. She had no choice but to move on. She had to support her family and her unborn child.

Her mother grew up poor so she put all her faith in her daughter. So she worked a lot of odd jobs just to feed and support Emily and his older brother who was born weak but with a gifted mind. They've always had a love-hate relationship with their mother. And with Emily's current condition, it added another strain to their relationship.
