Savannah Chang's twelve-year-old sister, Ruby, is diagnosed with cancer. But she gets a chance to make a wish from the Wishing Star. A foundation that grants sick kids a wish they can make to spend time with their favorite celebrity. Ruby chooses to spend a month with her favorite singer Jake Hardy. 
 
Savannah never got the hype for Jake. All her friends and sister are obsessed with him. When she is forced to meet him, he is arrogant and self centered as she though he would be.
 
Jake Hardy reluctantly agrees to spend time with the kid who made a wish as long as he gets paid for it. But Savannah is making his job harder with her rudeness and pettiness.
 
Savannah and Jake agree on a truce for the sake of Ruby. As Ruby gets sicker the closer they become. And unwanted attention from the media is invading the Chang family's privacy.
