A CliFi short story. Imagine a place where there is a searing thousand mile desert that runs to a sea... ...a sea that one hundred miles off shore is so cold you die within a minute if you fall in. Five hundred miles to the south of the sea is a frozen landscape in perpetual winter... ... a place that is always snowed on and that frequently calves monster icebergs. Hardly anywhere on land is safe; little life survives. The last refuge of mankind are the Stilt Cities, floating in the middle of the ocean. To the north are the Desert Domes: the last farms, protecting plants from the intense heat and sand. To the south the Ice Quarries: the last supply of fresh, cooling water. A current system moves strongly along the divide of heat and cold, but rarely over it. You, however, move across it like a metronome... tick... tick... tick... ...and as the prison ship Destiny plies the waves, a secretive cult have a strange request of the Captain.

Cli-fi or climate sci-fi centres on the reasons and outcome of climate change here on old Earth as well as potential means to prevent the worst. As such, cli-fi often has a darker tone, but who said that there can't be an upside to it? And of course, climate change can happen on other planets as well - and perhaps even be seen as something good by some? A large new subgenre to explore for the writers of the mothership!

It is the year 6992 AC (after Crisis), and the world is finally forced to acknowledge a threat that has been put off for years- the sun, which is will expand and incinerate the earth in 20 years. IHA (Institute for Human Advancement) has found a planet, Terestia, a mere 20 light years away, and sets up a series of tests to select the best of the best to survive. When something goes wrong, seven adolescents are stranded on this foreign planet with nothing but each other. Will they be able to survive? Follow Marin, Amber, Ming-Gui, Laina, Robert, Nigel, and Nina as they struggle for survival and truly learn how to survive.
