Beyond the Trench

Legends claim that mermaids are descended from Poseidon, God of the sea. How do they come to exist in a world that once held no magic and no provable gods. Is their existence a curse, or a freak accident caused by Mana? There are stories even in this new world of mermaids gaining legs. Perhaps they'd had them before and simply remembered.
