Dearly Beloved,
Never have I missed anyone
As much as I miss you,
Since the day I saw you walk away
With your gun slung around your shoulder,
And heartache in your eyes.

This house we call our own now feels empty
As empty as a lake with no water
And the sunshine we once savored, has now faded.
Your sweet humming has been replaced
With the loneliness from the howling wind.

With most women around here,
Grief is their prison.
Since all of our husbands have gone to war,
We are left to be consumed by misery.
But this torturous town of tears
Will not strike down my hope.

My dear, my dear,
I just wish you were back home.
I miss your low but soft voice,
I miss your warm embraces
And the way you smiled at me
With kindness in your eyes.

The angels lullaby me to sleep every night
And I can only pray you are alright.
I hope this letter gets to you,
Please that the war will be over soon
So you can come home to me
And just know that every day you are still dear to my heart.

With love,
Your beloved wife

-- PROLOGUE "Let me get this straight. We have nothing in between us, except for the deal we made that day" he spoke in a monotonous tone. "I am the one carrying your name behind me; we are married. how can you say we have nothing in between us? Huh" She yelled at him, tears blurred her vision, and she spoke her heart to him. "For god's sake, this marriage was to save you! Can't you get that? I did not do it willingly, I do not love you!!" He yelled back at her, shattering her heart into pieces. "Why can't you just love me?" She spoke, as she cried the tears of hurt, and pain. Her heart thumped loudly due to the shivering sensation She felt all over her body. "I never made a commitment to you, or gave you any false hope, neither did i say that i love you. Did i?" He asked her, in a very cold tone. She looked at him through her teary eyes. It's getting difficult for her to even breathe. "It was your eyes, the damn eyes. Who gave me the false hope. They say, "Eyes speak the truth," but what about mine? Couldn't you feel the sincerity within them, expressing my deep affection for you? Why didn't you see the love shining in them? Was it too complex to understand? Couldn't you notice the warmth as they gazed at you? They search for you in every corner, If only you realized how they silently echoed the emotions I couldn't articulate. They say, "Eyes never deceive." But what about yours? They played a trick on me when they met mine, painting a facade of a world that wasn't real. They made me feel loved, Leading me into a belief that crumbled, louder than your spoken promises. Why did they betray me? Was it your eyes or you that masked the truth?" He stayed still, not moving or saying anything at her statement. --

"Please leave, please," she implored, her voice a fragile thread in the dim room. Her small fists struck against my chest, each blow more a plea than an attack. Her touch was light, desperate, a whisper of strength amid the weight of her fear. Her tears shone in the soft glow of twilight, streaking down her cheeks and leaving silvery trails on her pale skin. Her hair, damp and tangled, clung to her face, and her sobs filled the air with a raw, aching melody. I tightened my hold, my arms a barrier against the world that had hurt her. She felt so small, so breakable, and the thought of letting go filled me with a terror I couldn't name. Her voice echoed in my mind, each "please" a shard of glass against my heart, but I stood firm. She was my heart, my everything. Our souls were bound, twisted together by fate and love and pain. Even in the face of death, I would not release her. I would fight for her, for us, against the tide of despair threatening to pull us under. Her eyes, wide and glassy, held both innocence and shadows. She stared up at me, a blend of trust and fear that tightened the knot in my chest. Her breathing slowed, her small hands clinging to my shirt, and I smoothed a strand of hair from her face. "We'll get through this," I whispered, my voice steady. "Together."
