Every night as a tradition Elbeth Lothheart visits 'The End' a cliff that is conspired of rumours. This is where her father committed suicide leaving the family dishonoured. She seeks to learn the ways of The Moon God.
She meets a boy, Lawrence, a close canine companion named Shadowmeir and Jester, the town delinquent.
Trouble beings to arise when the council become suspicious of her activity at 'The End'

"I want to help you." His bright eyes sparkle in the moonlight. "You can't help me! You hurt me!" By now, the tears I had been desperately trying to hold back finally slip out. "They hurt you!" As he yells, the anger in his voice eases out; his eyes are filled with familiar sadness. "I have nowhere else to go." I shoot back, taking a step away from him, afraid he will strike me as everyone else does. As soon as he notices this, his eyes widen, and his fists relax. "Come with me." He responds, hope gleaming in his eyes. I look up at the bright moon shining down on us as the breeze ruffles my hair. "Come with you?" I question.
