I'm sorry, but I don't know what planet Sam's from. Shifters are, in fact, indigenous to Earth, as far as I know, but Sam has to be the exception. He's unpacked everything with incredible precision, lined up in the drawers under his bunk, boxers, shirts and shorts folded neatly, books arranged by size on the headboard shelf. Whereas my luggage looks like it ate something that didn't agree with it and promptly expelled everything inside. He's just sitting there on the edge of the bottom bunk he chose right next to mine, elbows braced behind him as he leans back, too tall to sit upright.
He's not making me nervous. He's not. It's totally fine if he just wants to watch my disaster unfold.
"Don't you want a top bunk? You'd have more room for your head, I think."
His gaze doesn't waver. "I'm good. Do you want some help?"
"No, thank you," I say, picking up a stick of deodorant. I use it before I throw it into the drawer, and I could swear Sam's eyes flare when I expose my abs. Scowling, I turn my back to him.
