Sage lives as a social outcast among her people in a time of conflict, distrust, and death. The world is new, and humans are a rarity, with little contact between their small and dwindling groups. They don't share the planet alone with nature reigning supreme. Large predators, poisonous vegetation and unearthly creatures are ready to make a quick meal of any unsuspecting human's body and soul.

Curiosity and a profound temptation to fulfil her desires draw Sage away from well-trained survival skills for living through the harsh world. The path she walks is fraught with uncertainty and danger. Can she return to her family in time? Or has her ill-considered choices of youth doomed the entire village?
