Henry Everwood has lived in Hallows' Grove his entire life amongst superstitious townspeople. Despite his patient denial of the rumours circulating his practices, Henry is indeed the witch people fear him to be, though he hardly uses his magic for anything more than his cooking and housecleaning. He notices this balance; the quiet self-containment; and something in him snags. A glance exchanged across the shelves becomes a pulse he can't shake. At first, he lingers for coincidence: choosing the same aisles, borrowing the same books. The admiration feels harmless, almost romantic, like the start of something fated. But as days pass, the soft clarity of his fascination thickens. The music in her ears becomes the rhythm of his thoughts.
