With no clue as to why, Nova spends most of her life researching where her abilities originally came from and concludes that they must have come from her biological parents, who had given her up for adoption when she was just a few days old to be protected from a danger she does not understand--a danger known as the Vokanari, a.k.a. The Silence. And they want her to be their next weapon against her own father, the Doctor.
