Aurora, who was born and raised in Winchester, is Odda's daughter and thus Odda the younger's little sister! Her close bond with her big brother is no secret in Winchester and she is a highly respected confidante of the King!

After the death of King Æthelred of Winchester, his brother Alfred was appointed the new king and has treated his people equally and fairly ever since! Aurora is welcome at the royal court and Lady Ælswith treats her as if she were her own daughter!

One day, however, two Danes come to Winchester and request a hearing with King Alfred! Uhtred, a really handsome young warrior warns the King of an impending war! 

Brida, his companion and apparently wife, keeps a low profile and watches her surroundings closely! After the conversation was over, the two Danes were thrown into the dungeon!

Aurora couldn't stand it and brought them both bread and ale! One night Odda the younger caught his sister and brought her before King Alfred! He then decided not to punish the young woman and to release the two prisoners!

However, Uhtred had to swear an oath to the king and Brida then went to Ireland with Uhtred's brother Ragnar! Months passed and Uhtred was still King Alfred's sword and shield! Moreover, Aurora and Uhtred were getting closer and closer and she could literally feel the deprecating looks from the women and men in the alleys of Winchester on her!

From time to time, Uhtred came back to Winchester, but the last time he had a young Dane with him! His name was Sihtric and he rapidly became Aurora's friend! They trusted each other with everything...

But then one time, Uhtred came back with Sihtric, his brother, Hild, Clapa, an Irishman and a woman! Her name was Gisela and it seemed like, that Uhtred and her were in love! 

It made Aurora angry and she let Uhtred feel her anger, at every opportunity...

Will they find their once so strong love again?
