Dreaming. I was dreaming. I had to be. There was no way this random stranger could be my dead brother, coming to tell me in a place I had never seen before that I was going to die tomorrow.

“What?” I was numb. I tried pinching myself to get myself to wake up, but it was no use. Nothing worked. I rubbed my eyes, on the brink of tears from frustration.

“I said you’re going to die tomorrow.” He stood up and walked to the window, moonlight spilling over the dusty curtains and across his pale face. “I didn’t want you to. But I don’t have any choice.” He coughed, looking out of the window placidly.

“What do you mean, you don’t have any choice!?” I screamed, wanting to wake up from this strange and terrifying nightmare.

“It’s not my decision!” His eyes flared and fire seemed to glow in their amber depths. “The incident has already been set up, I have no power over what happens now.” Vick smiled slightly. “You’ll have to join us. You’re already an Amaranth.”
