What makes it worse, is when he's placed into an arranged marriage as a landgrab, and then told about it just before it happened. Now he is wrestling with both his addiction, and someone he was supposed to marry in 1860! Ivan was an addict, once. He understood the pain of withdrawal. He wants to help, since there was nobody around to help him. The idea of joining the Union was one he hadn't even thought of before his boss had arranged the marriage with the dictatrix. Two Scenes & A Lifetime Contract
So transmigration into a novel is real. Fantastic. But instead of waking up as the dazzling heroine or the cunning villainess... I got stuck as the cannon fodder side character.
