Neteyam has no excuse to stay sober and he does not want to. It is only around five in the afternoon. Ao'nung does not turn down a bottle of passion fruit & orange cider. The young surfer has no idea how the swooning girls did not figure out that Neteyam plays for the other team yet. Perhaps it is because Lo'ak is an absolute buffon and openly flirts with Tsireya. Maybe they think Neteyam is the same.

Neteyam does not have a bottle opener. He has a small knife on him - military brat - and he hits it against the bottle's cap, knocking it off clean with one strike. It's his party trick. Ao'nung always breaks the bottle when he tries to do this.

A couple of tiny glowing fish came over to him, inspecting him. Neteyam watched them, unmoving. His stillness encouraged the little creatures to inch closer, one coming to rest against his nose. Neteyam realized they were the seeds of Eywa - only here, they did not float. Neteyam smiled softly, extending one of his arms, palm facing up. One of the seeds swam into his hand, resting comfortably. Ao'nung slowly sank down to his knees as well, brows furrowed in an unpleasant glare before bubbles escaped his lips in surprise at the sight in front of him. Neteyam glanced his way for a mere second before turning back to Eywa's little creations, watching as they circled his waist before finally swimming away.

Neteyam was dead. He died a warrior, protecting his family, his best friend, and his people. They all suffered from the loss, but nobody hurt as much as Ao'nung. In secret, he had bonded with Neteyam weeks before the fight against the demon ship. Na'vis were able to bond beyond what humans thought imaginable, and a mate's death was the worst pain they ever knew. Neteyam's death would have destroyed Ao'nung, if it weren't for one thing : He never felt the bond break. As much as he tried to tell his people, nobody believed him. But he knew. Of course, the only person that was ready to believe him was the one that couldn't accept Neteyam's death the most, and also the one that never obeyed a single order : Lo'ak.
