Catharina Klein, a student of Wiskayok High School and a member of the Yellowjackets soccer team, finds herself fascinated by one of her teammates, Charlotte Matthews. With time, the two become close friends. However, their relationship takes an unexpected turn when the plane they are traveling in crashes, leaving them and the remaining Yellowjackets girls to survive in the Canadian wilderness for nine months.
