He was miserable, gay and being suffocated by the grip of his father's religiousness. Sal Fisher- the new kid in town, the exact thing Travis hated. Gay and transgender, on the outside happy with his life. On the inside, dying from a heart disease and living with a verbally abusive alcoholic father. Both were miserable, though it was hardly obvious to outsiders. They were polar opposites yet the exact same. Travis grew up knowing a couple things. One of those things was that being gay was a sin, and that if you were gay, or anything like that, you're going to hell. Or at least, that's what he was told. But after an incident with Sal in the boys washroom, Travis starts to think that he might have been wrong the whole time.
