Ever since her failed gift ceremony, Mirabel has felt ignored, shoved to the side, useless, unloved. She tried to be understanding. She tried to love her family. But there's just so much you can take before you snap.
And then, ten years later, she finds Bruno's vision of her standing outside the cracked Casita, and her family tells her about Bruno. And then she makes a choice. First Bruno, then her. She was tired of being hated for just being different. Resented her family for everything they did to her and Bruno. They loved her less than a candle - pathetic. And so she decided to take away the thing they treasured most. The candle. She'd end the miracle once and for all.
