Laurent, a boy, son of two noble sovereigns, meets Martina, daughter of two merchants who travel the world. He meets her for the first time at the age of 4, in the market, and she tells him about the places she has been, making him want to see those places in person. The second time they meet he is 13 and she is playing a transverse flute whose melody enchants him and he asks her to teach him how to play this instrument. The third time he is 16 and they are both sitting on the branch of a tree, he an oak tree, she an apple tree. Between them is a high wall lower than tree branches. The fourth time is her 21st birthday, coronation day, hiding in the alley between the tailor shop and the bakery to escape the crowds of onlookers. The fifth time is the day of his engagement to a foreign princess, Carmen. The sixth time is on Carmen and Laurent's wedding day, where she is best man for him. The seventh and last time is the day her daughter Luisa is born, her mother dies in childbirth and Martina, the princess's godmother, takes her away from the palace. A few hours later that palace catches fire with King Laurent inside and the young woman is raised by her godmother. All Rights Reserved
