Seth Alexander is Atlanta's finest detective. When he is suddenly transferred to New York and met with an entire new team, the acceptance of his presence is lacking. He knows most people don't like him, and he knows exactly why. He's blunt, factual, stern, and is constantly described as "cold."

A case is placed before him while his apartment is barely unpacked. Arriving at the scene, Seth is met with despair. Surrounding him is the blood of innocence and the coldness of death. On this property lies a sizeable mansion with a greenhouse and beautiful gardens. However, inside is anything but pretty. Staff tending to the property are slain. Rooms are rummaged through and antiques are smashed. Maids and cooks are in need of proper burials. But there is one thing missing. One person.

Caddy Marz. The young, innocent owner of the property. The peaceful and quiet twenty-six year old girl. The famous painter who began her career in Atlanta. The girl Seth wishes he had if he was kind like her.

There's nothing stolen in the house to the naked eye. But to Seth, he knows exactly what's missing.

Her new artwork collection.

And attached to the last door on the third floor is her self-portrait, hung with a note - the signature written in Caddy's blood.

How will Seth handle the case of the girl he once knew? What will happen when he hides evidence from his team, in search for his own vengeance? And what will he do if he finds her - dead or alive?
