Izuku and Katsuki's relationship had grown cold after that incident. Now that they both made it to UA Katuski has his own new friends and Izuku has his, but that didn't stop our suicidal teen thinking that Katsuki would be better off with him being dead.
So when All for One shot an attack at them while trying to save Katsuki at Kamino Ward, he had sacrificed himself and took the attack, hoping to make his friend's "dream" come true.
